Haverhill Veterans Band

The Haverhill Veterans Band had its inaugural rehearsal in September 2021, though it was originally planned for April 2020! There have been rehearsals every month since and we even performed a very well received jubilee concert in the local church.

The band is open to any players who are free on the first Thursday of each month in the afternoon. Whilst there is no lower age limit this does tend to mean that the average age of the participants is above that of retirement.

The idea is to have a fun afternoon of stress-free banding with fellow enthusiasts. The band draws players from many local bands (Hadstock, Haverhill, Long Melford, Newmarket, Phoenix Brass, Rinaldi Express, Royston, Soham, Waterbeach Brass, Waterbeach SA) and some who no longer play in a band. The tea break is very much a part of the afternoon as it is an opportunity to catch up with friends old and new.

We have had very good attendance each month but do understand that players will not necessarily be able to attend every rehearsal and only ask that we know availability before the day.

Conducting duties are split between members of the group (usually at least three different baton wielders per rehearsal) and players seem to like this arrangement.

The Veterans are very grateful for the use of the Haverhill Bandroom and for access to their library of music. Also, to David Goswell who was very much involved in the setting up of the group, he provided an urn, tea supplies and lots of sets of music.

If you would like to become involved with this group, please contact us via the band email: info@haverhillsilverband.com

We look forward to welcoming you.
