Haverhill Youth & Community Band (HYAC)

After a decade of inactivity, the Haverhill Youth Band was reformed by Theresa Jones. In 2004 Theresa decided to concentrate on her new family, and Diane Pannell took over and the numbers continued to grow. Often when young players came to the band they were accompanied by parents who were foolish enough to remark that they had enjoyed playing in brass bands themselves when they were younger. A few minutes later they had an instrument in their hands and were playing again! Within a few months adults also formed an integral part of the activities and the committee decided to rename the band “Haverhill Youth and Community Band”.

The aim of this band is to train players to the standard where they can join the senior band and so maintain the long tradition and high standard of brass playing in Haverhill. We also, however, hope to give all the players an enthusiasm for playing and for brass bands that they can take with them wherever they go.
